Goes well with
Most people meet Cheeseball, see four pounds of fox and two giant ears, and assume she wants to be picked up.
The Cheeseball DND Unisex Premium Sweatshirt is a crew-neck graphic sweatshirt with Cheeseball printed across the chest. Drawn in white with scratchy blue shading, she grins with her eyes shut under a pair of headphones, her black-tipped tail wrapped around her paws. Red and blue sound waves fan out on either side, and DO NOT DISTURB sits below her in blue.
She would rather be asked. The lettering under her says it plainly.

Cheeseball

Species/Type
Fennec Fox
First Appearance
Episode 1
TL;DR
A four-pound fennec fox with the self-image of something much larger, Cheeseball treats physical limits as problems to solve, and heavy metal is the first sound she has ever heard that seems to agree with her.
Cheeseball — Original
Fluffy, yellow-eyed and built mostly out of ears, Cheeseball goes straight toward whatever interests her and tries a new angle when she doesn't fit. Crowds, grabbing hands and noise she never chose can overwhelm her. A distorted guitar she walked up to on purpose is a different matter.
Cheeseball — Post-Mutation
After the mutation, Cheeseball stands about three feet tall, walks on her hind legs, runs on all four, and can hold and play a guitar. Her eyes can turn red and fire lasers. Her confidence was always this size. Now the rest of her has caught up.
Backstory
The fennec fox spent her first years traveling with an educational wildlife program. The people who ran it cared about their animals: she was fed well, watched closely and given places to hide and rest. The travel still meant carriers, vehicles, temporary rooms and new voices, then another stop and another crowd delighted by her ears.
The fox went toward anything that caught her attention: a loose strap, a half-open case, a gap she probably couldn't fit through. When an obstacle stopped her, she changed angles, dug, climbed or tried again. What wore her down was losing control of the space around her. Crowds, overlapping voices and hands reaching in could become too much, and then she pulled back until she had room. People sometimes read that as fear. Given a little space and time, her curiosity came straight back.
Her caretakers kept seeing the same pattern. Once the travel stopped, she calmed down fast and went right back to being herself. In 2026 they arranged a permanent home for her at Sunrise Sanctuary in Wyoming, where the animals decide when to come closer. On her first day, Renji summed up for a tour group what Sunrise could give her that the road never could: tomorrow in the same place.
When the carrier door opened in the Sunrise office, no hands came in after the fox. She waited until the room went quiet, then stepped out and started checking things. She found a narrow gap between a metal cabinet and the wall, pushed her head and both ears through, and stopped at the shoulders. She backed out, turned sideways and tried again.
Later, out on the grounds, a distorted guitar rolled through the trees, and she ran toward it. It came from the barn, where Kagen sat on the floor fixing a feed cart with heavy metal on the stereo. He turned it down. She stepped closer. He turned it back up, and she sat.
The name came from Kagen's lunch, a clear plastic tub of bright orange cheese balls. She went for it at once and dragged it by the lid until he moved it to the workbench. She climbed a feed sack after it, so he moved it to a high shelf. When she started for the loft ladder, he told her to leave it alone and called her Cheeseball in the same breath. Then he looked at the tub, looked at her and admitted the name was probably permanent. Getting that tub has been her project ever since.
Kagen is where her love of heavy metal started. The next morning he left the stereo on when he went out to work and told her not to touch the knob. She spent most of the day beside the speaker. The music gives a sound to something that was already in her: the distortion, the volume and the hard rhythm underneath feel the way she has always seemed to experience herself.
Cheeseball's blind spot is help. She treats a limit like an insult, and she has trouble telling "I need a different way to do this" from "someone thinks I can't do this." Mutation hands a fox who always believed she was bigger than her body a much bigger body. She still has to learn that taking a boost, trying a better angle or letting someone help does not mean everyone else was right about her.
